Tenerife (English also Teneriffe), a Spanish island, is the largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa.
Tenerife is has a surface area of 2 034 km˛. Like the rest of the Canary Islands, it is of volcanic origin. The highest point of Spain, Teide (3 718 m), is on this island. Tenerife is part of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It includes 31 municipalities. Tenerife has highways encircling the island and halfway between the mountain, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna and the only into Mount Teide. There is a road north of Santa Cruz de Tenerife but the Anaga cliffs do not encircle the whole that part of the island. When tourism boomed, the first superhighways in the island which are the second westermost in Africa including the mainland. The TF1 was first opened around Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the TF2 later opened to Los Rodeos Airport and to San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Increasing tourism expanded to the Orotava Valley and to Tenerife Sur and finally west of Adeje. The island has two airports, the Los Rodeos or Tenerife Norte and the Reina Sofia Airport or Tenerife Sur. With average lows of 20°C in winter and 30°C in summer, Tenerife is a great holiday island any time of year. Lively resorts on the south west coast offer fun and sun with sandy beaches and as much night life as you can take. But if you want to explore there’s a whole island to discover with lush sub-tropical scenery in the north and one of the tallest volcanoes in the world – Mount Teide.
