Broomfield House, founded in 1876, is a mixed preparatory school which takes children from the age of 3 - 11. Teaching is on traditional lines with emphasis on the three 'R's. Starting in our pre-kindergarten at the age of 3, children are gradually introduced to life in the main school by participating in annual concerts and special morning assemblies. Integration into all-day school is trouble free. All full day pupils are served lunch prepared on the premises.

As well as the core subjects, art and technology, computer studies, drama, gymnastics, music, sport and swimming are part of the curriculum. Children commence French at the age of 4. Science is taught throughout the school, with special emphasis on the requirements of the Common Entrance syllabus. The classes at the top of the school are small ensuring the development of each individual's confidence and potential. Boys and girls are prepared for entry to London independent secondary schools and boarding schools.

The school has strong links with St Anne's Church, Kew, where the school holds its Christmas Carol Service. A large proportion of the pupils play a musical instrument and are encouraged to perform at concerts throughout the year. Pupils visit Local Homes for the elderly at Christmas and Harvest to present programmes of seasonal music and verse. Specialist staff teach music, drama and dance. Optional, individual lessons in piano, violin, woodwind, brass, voice, speech and drama are offered. There is a school choir and orchestra. The highlight of every summer term is the senior school production of a musical play. Our Year 4 children benefit from our unique collaboration with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, planting our Kew Gardens allotment.

All children have access to the school's well-stocked library and IT facilities. There is an active and successful chess club with participation in local tournaments. In the upper school girls play netball, hockey and rounders; boys play football, rugby and cricket. All are coached in tennis and athletics during the Summer Term. There is a fully equipped gymnasium at the school. Swimming classes are held throughout the year.

The combination of the activities and attitudes mentioned above results in secure, motivated, broadly based children leaving us at age 11 to meet the world of senior education with developing maturity and confidence. In 2005, all Year 6 pupils passed onto a choice of good schools with 33% achieving scholarships.

Broomfield House School employs several young working musicians to teach a variety of musical instruments. Pupils usually take up the piano or recorder in Year 1while older children (with a wider reach) can take up violin and flute. Brass, saxophone and clarinet are also available from Year 3 when adult teeth have appeared.
