Dominique Christou teaches Pilates remedial exercise, drawing on extensive knowledge of dance techniques. Pilates exercise class offers many benefits. Using conditioning exercises it is possible to correct and realign the body making changes and improving posture.

Focussing the mind on the body you can learn how to locate and isolate the work of specific muscle groups in order to strengthen them, special attention is given to strengthening core muscles of the torso to provide a strong centre and support a good posture. Gentle stretching is also an  important part of the class to gain flexibility. Thought is given to breathing deeply when performing the exercises increasing lung capacity, helping alleviate tension, the exercises stimulate the circulatory system oxygenating the blood and reviving the body.

Pilates when done regularly results in an increased  body awareness and a balanced, strong and supple body. Pilates is suitable for men and women of all ages, when taught in a small group or on a one to one basis the exercises can be tailored to the individual so exercises benefit you personally. Pilates is particularly relevant for performers such as dancers, actors, musicians for whom good posture is vital. Sports persons and  people involved in demanding forms of exercise for whom body awareness and strength is important.

Useful in the prevention of  injury and rehabilitation after injury Pilates is for back pain especially if the underlying cause is bad posture, & for people suffering from repetitive strain injury.

Pilates is also highly recommended for for the elderly to aid mobility of joints and maintain strength. For people who are returning to exercise after a long break, or those who have never exercised before who need to work gently and gradually build confidence, co-ordination and strength.
