If you have arrived in London but your final destination is outside of the city and you are unable to make a connection directly from your arrival airport, you will probably be continuing your journey from one of London's mainline railway stations or coach (bus) stations. Train travel is the quickest and most reliable of the two, but travel by coach is less expensive.

Generally speaking, for trips less than 150 miles, the train is quicker. Great Britain's rail system has high-speed modern rail links between larger cities on the InterCity passenger network.

London is served by ten Mainline Railway Stations.

Most coaches leaving London will depart from Victoria Coach Station, which is approximately 10 minutes walk from Victoria railway station. There are a variety of different coach operators, and therefore a wide variety of fares and timetables. One major coach company which operates throughout the UK is National Express.

London is one of the most visited cities on earth. Tourist attractions are located mainly in Central London, comprising the historic City of London; the West End with its many cinemas, bars, clubs, theaters, shops and restaurants; the City of Westminster with Westminster Abbey, the royal residences of Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and St. James's Palace; the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea with its museums (the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, and Victoria and Albert Museum) and Hyde Park. Other important tourist attractions include St Paul's Cathedral, the National Gallery; the South Bank and Bankside areas of Southwark with the Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern; London Bridge, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, and the Tate Britain on the Embankment; and the British Museum in Bloomsbury. There are many other places of interest across the city.

The capital's most hectic weekend market takes place around Camden Lock in North London . Further out, in the literary suburbs of Hampstead and Highgate, there are unbeatable views across the city from half-wild Hampstead Heath, the favourite parkland of thousands of Londoners. The glory of South London is Greenwich, with its nautical associations, royal park and observatory (not to mention its Dome). Finally, there are plenty of rewarding day-trips along the Thames from Chiswick to Windsor , most notably Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle.

Greater London contains 32 London boroughs, of which 12 (plus the City of London) make up Inner London and 20 Outer London
