Charing Cross Station, a minute's walk from Trafalgar Square, is one of the great Victorian railway stations.

Charing Cross Station was opened in 1864 and was the product of the Southern Eastern Railway's need to extend westward from London Bridge to get its passengers from Kent right into the heart of London. Charing Cross Station was built on the site of the former Hungerford Market.

Charing Cross Station was once the gateway to Paris and the Continent. In 1923 the newly formed Southern Railway decided to concentrate its Continental traffic at Victoria. Today Charing Cross serves south-east England, including Dover, Folkestone and Ramsgate, and is mainly a commuter station.

Charing Cross is also served by the Bakerloo and Northern underground lines. For information about trains and underground services telephone Transport for London on 0871 560 7952

Charing Cross is a district of central London in the City of Westminster.

Charing Cross is served by Charing Cross tube station, Embankment tube station, Leicester Square tube station, Waterloo station, Westminster tube station, Charing Cross railway station, Waterloo East station and Waterloo station

Charing Cross Road is a London street which runs north from Trafalgar Square to St Giles' Circus (the intersection with Oxford Street) and then becomes Tottenham Court Road.
