The historic naval port of Plymouth overlooks the English Channel where the River Tamar meets The Sound. The city centre's main street is Armada Way, a wide, tree-lined street. Its northern end is marked by North Cross, the southern end by Hoe Park. Immediately north of North Cross is Plymouth Train Station. East of North Cross is the University. South of North Cross, running perpendicular to Armada Way, are the three pedestrianised shopping streets: Mayflower Street, Cornwall Street and New George Street. Royal Parade marks the southern edge of the shopping area. Parallel to Royal Parade to the south is Notte Street leading to the Barbican. Between these two main thoroughfares are Plymouth's Guildhall, Courts, Civic Centre, Theatre Royal, ABC Cinema and Athenaeum Theatre. Plymouth's two largest docks are Millbay Docks to the west and Sutton Harbour to the east. The Royal Citadel is located adjacent to Hoe Park in the south of the city. The Barbican Maritime Village is in the east of the city, sandwiched between Armada Way and Sutton Harbour. The best way to get around Plymouth is on foot as distances are small and the main shopping streets are pedestrianised. There is a waterfront walkway which follows the sea from Millbay Docks in the east to Coxside in the west. It takes 30 minutes to walk the length of it and 10 minutes to walk from Plymouth Train Station to Royal Parade at the southern edge of the city centre.
